What to do if the test comes back positive

Dr. Hashmi says if your baby tests positive, the screening program immediately informs the child's doctor about this and this process is usually done before the baby completes 2 weeks. Before starting treatment, the doctor will order a blood sample from a vein to rule out congenital hypothyroidism in your baby. In some cases the doctor may also recommend a thyroid scan to see if the thyroid gland is too small.

Experts tell that timely treatment is very important, whose symptoms are as follows:

1- The child is not able to drink milk from anywhere

2- The child is sleeping excessively

3- The baby cries intermittently

4- The child is constipated

5-Yellow on baby's skin after birth

Dr. Hashmi explains that the symptoms of congenital hypothyroidism in the child are usually not common in the first week of birth. The doctor can diagnose your child by symptoms like swollen face, weak muscles, stomach upset with long tongue and more white spots on the head than usual.
